Navy staffer held in Delhi for spying

The Delhi police have arrested an Indian Navy employee for spying for Pakistan .

Police said Chand Kumar Prasad, 24, was posted in the navy’s aircraft maintenance wing in Mumbai. Prasad was caught by a special cell with photographs of the Hindon air base in Ghaziabad and a detailed map of the Meerut Cantonment.

After his arrest from New Delhi on Wednesday, he was produced before a magistrate and remanded to five days police custody. He allegedly passed on classified information to a Pakistan High Commission official.

Naval sources said Prasad, a resident of Chapra district in Bihar, was a mechanic at the INS Shikra air base. “He has put in around four years’ service,” they added.

INS Shikra is the navy’s only helicopter base, from where it operates Sea Kings, Kamov 28s, Kamov 31s and Chetaks, and was used during the 26/11 attacks, by the National Security Guards to launch operations against terrorists at Nariman House.
