Chief minister Narendra Modi and three other
top leaders of the state BJP have been served legal notice for their remarks against the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which is investigating the Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case by an order of the Supreme Court.
Notices have been sent by Rubabuddin Sheikh, brother of Sohrabuddin Sheikh, to chief minister Narendra Modi, state BJP president RC Faldu, Rajya Sabha MPs Purushottam Rupala and Vijay Rupani. Rubabuddin, through his lawyer Rajesh Mankad, raised the contention that Modi's remarks against CBI amounted to contempt of court as the agency is probing the case according to the apex court order.
Regarding the statement of Modi that the Congress had given supari to CBI to finish him politically, the notice said, "such public utterance of yours clearly amounts to grave insult to the apex court which had directed the CBI to conduct investigation and the statements made by you (Modi) were deliberate and calculated to undermine the majesty of the apex court."
Notice to the other three BJP leaders has been served on their statement that they termed the CBI as 'Congress' Bureau of Investigation.
The notice states that, "deliberate and conscious efforts were made by the ruling party to create doubts in the minds of the people regarding the integrity of CBIdespite the fact that it was known to everybody that CBI was conducting the investigation under the direction of the apex court."
