New Delhi: Janata Party president Subramanian Swamy today said that the Muslims should denounce the resolution passed by Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind asking the community not to recite Vande Mataram.

"The resolution passed yesterday at the Deoband seminary gathering directing Muslims in the nature of a fatwa to reject Vande Mataram is violative of the Constitution and hence actionable under IPC," he said in a statement.

He said he wanted the Muslim leaders to "denounce the fatwa and place the nation and its Constitution above their religion".

The JuH yesterday passed a resolution at a meeting in Deoband asking members of the community not to recite Vande Mataram and supported seminary Darul Uloom's edict which opposes any prayer involving the song.

"The fatwa of Darul Uloom (opposing recitation of Vande Mataram) is correct," said one of the 25 resolutions passed by the organisation at its 30th general session yesterday.
