In an intriguing development, a group of around 20 Muslim businessmen have protested the statements made by German MPs of the European country's ruling party.

They have termed the statements 'provoking' and their remarks on persecution of Muslims in Gujarat 'totally unwarranted and unwelcome'.

"Their statement was myopic, inflammatory and derogatory in nature. Such statements lead to widening of the split between various religious groups," a statement released by them said.
During an unofficial visit earlier this month, a delegation of two MPs, a government advisor and a catholic activist had termed Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi a persona non grata in European Union.

A social group of Muslims residing in Gujarat called The United Force for Peace & Harmony, have claimed that Muslims in India and Gujarat have all the freedom they need to practice their religion and there is enough support from the state government.
In fact, Maulana Mohammad Ali Maniar categorically stated that the quality of life of Muslims in Gujarat is better than that in some European countries like France where women are not allowed to wear the hijaab in public.

"It is not that everything is hunky dory, we have human rights issues, which were violated in the 2002 riots and since then. But we have our own democratic institutes which are taking care of our concerns," said Zafar Sareshwala, CMD Parsoli Corporation.

However, when asked if they were seeking an apology from those who had made the statements, they were unclear and said they should revisit their statement, and if they are so concerned they should revisit and have a dialogue.
