Mumbai is for all Indians: Vishwa Hindu Parishad

The Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) today opposed Shiv Sena's 'anti-North Indian' campaign but supported the Bal Thackeray's
party for slamming actor Shah Rukh Khan for his comment that Pakistani cricketers should have been taken in the IPL.

"Mumbai is for all Indians and we do not support Shiv Sena's anti-North Indian stand," senior VHP leader Pravin Togadia told reporters in Guwahati.

However, he expressed support to Shiv Sena's opposition to Shah Rukh Khan's latest film My Name Is Khan over the actor's remark on Pakistani players, though the Sena had already made it clear that the screening of the film would not be thwarted.

Referring to Assam, Togadia demanded immediate upgradation of the National Register of Citizen (NRC) saying the cut-off year should be 1951 instead of 1971 as desired by the Assam's Congress government.

"Five Muslim organisations of Assam have also demanded 1971 as the base year which cannot be accepted. The NRC has to be updated in the same way other states had taken 1951 as the cutoff year," he said.

"At the time of preparing the NRC, the government must ensure that not a single foreigner entered his or her names in the register", he said.

Togadia said VHP has planned a country-wide economic blockade against infiltrated foreigners. However, he did not elaborate how the blockade would be carried out.
