Mullaperiyar row: BJP to form human chain with Tamil Nadu, Kerala people

With an aim to strengthen ties between the people of Tamil Nadu and Kerala, appeared to be strained over Mullaperiyar Dam issue, BJP units in Coimbatore district in Tamil Nadu and Palakkad district in Kerala have planned to 'join hands and form human chain' through the border on Monday.

The decision was taken at a meeting of office bearers of BJP units at Velanthavalam on Tamil Nadu-Kerala border, which was presided over by Tamil Nadu BJP secretary GKS Selvakumar and attended by local district president and office bearers and Krishnakumar, President, Palakkad BJP unit.

Accordingly, human chain would be formed at Walayar, Govindapuram and Gopalapuram borders on Dec 25, the birthday of former Prime Minister and senior BJP leader AB Vajpayee, M Selvakumar said.

The objective of this programme was to bring unity among the people of Kerala and Tamil Nadu, to prevent attacks on Ayappa devotees and also to prevent attacks on the shops and commercial establishments run by Tamils and Keralites, as a fall out of the Dam issue, he said.
