Congress leader Digvijay Singh today attacked Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav accusing him of making "hollow" promises on Muslim reservation and "keeping the doors open for RSS support".

"If Yadav was such a well-wisher of minorities, why did he not give reservation to Muslims when he was the Chief Minister of the state," Singh told reporters here.

Attacking the SP chief over his announcement to give 18 per cent reservation to Muslims, the AICC general secertary in-charge for Uttar Pradesh said Yadav's party will never get the two-third majority in Parliament to pass the Constitutional amendment required for it.

"Mulayam has never given any statement against Sangh. He has always kept one door open for any future need. Even in 2009 Lok Sabha elections, he had tied up with the mascot of Babri Mosque demolition Kalyan Singh," Singh said.

On the controversy surrounding Law Minister Salman Khurshid's announcement on reservation for backward minorities, he said, Congress had promised to give reservation to backward Muslims in its manifesto for 2009 Lok Sabha polls on the lines of what was done in Andhra Pradesh and Kerala.

He said Khurshid is the Chairman of the manifesto committee for the state and he also knows about the Congress commitment to provide reservation to backward Muslims.

He said that 4.5% reservation for backward Muslims okayed by the Centre is based on facts and figures while what Mulayam Singh was saying was "impractical and misleading".

Singh also dismissed BJP leader Arun Jaitley's criticism that Congress was shifting the focus of Uttar Pradesh elections from the issues of corruption and law and order to "divisive politics".

He said the BJP leader should join Congress if he wanted to do inclusive politics. "The most divisive ideology emanates from the Sangh and the BJP. If the BJP leader feels this country needs inclusive politcs, he should resign from BJP and join Congress," Singh said.
