The prestigious Mughal road, which is being constructed at a cost of Rs 639 crores and would link Poonch area of Jammu with Shopian area in Kashmir valley, would be completed by next year.
The work on this road project, which is being funded by the Centre, is in full swing at different places.
This was conveyed by officials of R&B and Hindustan Construction Corporation to minister for Roads and Buildings GM Saroori, who along with minister for forest Mian Bashir Ahmad and minister of state for R&B Javed Ahmad Dar conducted an aerial survey of the project yesterday.
The minister was told that 84 km of the road have been made motorable, whereas 75 km double lane was completed. However, the construction of 23 culverts and four minor bridges would be completed by next year.
He was also told that a tunnel is under-construction on the road to make it inter-regional communication functional round the year, particularly during winter season.
Asking the executing agencies to accelerate the pace of works on the project and ensure its timely completion, the minister directed the concerned engineers to monitor the work and ensure that qualitative material is used.
