Just a day before the announcement of results of the assembly elections, Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi worked at his office in the secretariat the whole day on Wednesday. He cleared many files, which were kept pending for a long time due to his busy schedule during the campaign period.

The state cabinet also met for the last time on Wednesday before the formation of a new government.

“Condolences were paid to former PM IK Gujral who passed away last month,” said state government spokesperson and health minister, Jaynarayan Vyas.

Apart from the cabinet, a high-power committee for providing water to Saurashtra region also met, under the aegis of the chief minister. As per sources present in the meeting, “The issue of providing water to Saurashtra was discussed. The region is facing a shortage of water, but it was decided to lay a 22-km-long pipeline grid from Bhadar-2 dam to Jetpur to provide water. Further, Rajkot city has started getting additional Narmada water supply of 5 crore litres per day from Dhrangadhra branch canal.”

After this meeting, Modi stayed in his office to clear important files before the new government takes charge. He also reviewed the preparations of Vibrant Gujarat Global Investors’ Summit - 2013.

More than 5,000 delegates from 100 countries are likely to participate in the biannual event. Japan and Canada are the partner countries for the 2013 summit. The event is scheduled on January 11, 12, 13 at Mahatma Mandir in Gandhinagar. This year, a facility for online signing of Memoranda of Understanding has been created. Innovative initiatives, small-scale industries and technology will be the focus areas of the summit.
