BJP leader Arun Jaitley today said some people with vested interest had circulated incorrect information that Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi had been issued summons by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) to appear before it on March 21.

"For the past few days there has been this incorrect information circulated to the media by some interested quarters that on the March 21 the Gujarat chief minister was supposed to appear before the SIT," Jaitley told reporters.

"But the truth is what has been circulated through an open letter by the CM (Modi) which states that the date of March 21 has been wrongly circulated by somebody," he said, adding there was no direct or indirect request to appear before SIT on March 21.

Jaitley said the entire debate that Modi was supposed to appear before SIT and did not do so, showing disrespect to Supreme Court, which constituted the body, lacked any basis.

"He (Modi) will certainly show full respect to SIT. The Gujarat government and the CM will comply fully with all legal obligations," the BJP leader said.

Jaitley described the circulation of "incorrect information" as an attempt by those with vested interest "to interfere with the due process of law".
