A mob, in an attempt to protect their leader from being arrested, attacked Naranpura Police in Nava Vadaj area on Saturday. Two cops were injured in the incident while six of the mobsters were taken in police custody.

A complaint against the six was lodged by head constable Pravinsinh Kanaji for attacking policemen and vandalising their vehicles.

Naranpura Police on Saturday had gone to Ramapirno Tekro area to arrest one Agul Rawat, accused for his involvement in a communal clash that took place in the area on Friday afternoon. A knife was recovered from Rawat's possession.

While cops were taking away Rawat, his father Shankarbhai and 20 of his accomplices attacked the police to prevent their leader's arrest. Stone-pelting ensued and one police vehicle was destroyed in the incident.

Two police officers - head constable Balaji Devraj and constable Kantibhai were injured but they were able to arrest six people accused in Friday's communal clash.

The six were identified as Agul Rawat, Satish Parmar, Gita Parmar, Natwar Shenva, Sheila Nadia and Dhamji Rawat, all belonging to one community.
