Agartala: Tripura government has banned the use of mobile phones by students in the schools, official sources said here today.

The decision of banning mobile phone by students in the school campus was taken in the state cabinet yesterday.

The cabinet gave some relief to the teachers, who will be allowed to carry and use mobile phones outside the classes. They will not be allowed to use mobile phone inside the class and laboratory, sources said.

Education minister Tapan Chakraborty said the decision was taken after recommendation of Centre to impose prohibition
of carrying and using of mobile phones inside the school premises.

Earlier, Parliamentary Standing Committee on Education (PSCE) in its report had recommended prohibiting use of mobile
phones by the students on February 16.
