Mob damages AMTS buses after youth run over

Mob fury came in full force on the stretch from Rupali cinema to Electricity House in Lal Darwaja after AMTS buses knocked down two youths, killing one of them on the spot and injuring the other critically on Wednesday night. The mob damaged a few AMTS buses and pelted stones at policemen.

According to police, first an AMTS bus hit the two youths riding a motorcycle near Rupali cinema. The two fell down on the road, only to be run over by another AMTS bus coming from behind.

One of them died on the spot. He was identified as Aiyaz Kadri. The other, whose name could not be known immediately, was rushed to VS Hospital in a serious condition.
A source said, "The bike had the word 'Badman' written on the number plate. As soon as the driver of the first bus started to escape, people started pelting stones at the bus. The driver was also beaten up."

He said soon more people gathered at the spot and tried to set ablaze the second bus, but a police team reached there at that moment. The mob was pelting stones at other AMTS buses passing on the road.

When Ellisbridge and Karanj police teams reached the spot, people also started targeting them. A team of fire brigade also reached there. By the time this report was filed, police had cordoned off the area and traffic movement towards Lal Darwaja bus stand from Nehru Bridge side was not being allowed.
