One person was killed and three others seriously injured when militants fired at a weekly village market demanding closure of liqour shops and a halt to gambling in Orissa's Sundargarh district.

About 10 armed militants of the Jharkhand Liberation Tiger (JLT), a splinter group of erstwhile MCC in the neighbouring state, stormed into the market at Katepur about 60 km from Rourkela on the Orissa-Jharkhand border last evening, police sources said.

They fired from their weapons killing a person identified as Prasanna Naik, 40, and injuring three critically, the sources said.

The militants left after an hour, disappearing into the forests of Jharkhand.
