Meghalaya unit of BJP today organised a sit-in demonstration to protest the spiralling prices of essential commodities and the failure of the government to streamline Public Distribution System.

"UPA government at the centre has failed to check the increasing prices of essential commodities, thus leading to erosion of the confidence of the people in the government," state BJP general secretary Dipayan Chakraborty said.

He led the scores of BJP supporters in front of the Additional Secretariat here.

UPA, he said, is yet to come up with a proper policy to relieve the common people of the pressure of price rise, despite repeated pleas from various corners.

State BJP condemned UPA's efforts "to burden aam admi with yet another dose of petrol and diesel price hike".

"The food inflation is on its high in country and people are reeling under the pinch of the overall price rise. The UPA government has also failed to streamline the PDS system. The PDS is in a mess in Meghalaya and BPL citizens are unable to meet their two square meals a day," he said.
