Barely a week after his Sadbhavna Mission fast at Gujarat University's Exhibition Hall, city cops have once again been given the task to manage more than 2.5 lakh people who are expected to take part in chief minister Narendra Modi's mega rally to be held on Sunday.

The rally is being held by Modi to protest the appointment of Gujarat's Lok Ayukta without consulting the state government.

According to Sudhir Sinha, commissioner of Ahmedabad city police, more than 2.5 lakh people are expected at the open ground opposite RAF camp on Sardar Patel (SP) ring road in Vastral, the venue of the rally. The event will take place on Sunday afternoon.

To manage the crowd and vehicles, the CP has chalked out an elaborate plan and has given responsibility of overall police bandobast to Atul Karwal, joint commissioner of police (JCP) sector-II.

To control the huge flow of vehicles arriving from different regions of the state, police have already allotted different parking spaces near the ground. To manage traffic on SP ring road, traffic personnel from other districts have been called in by the city police. "We have taken enough care to ensure that visitors don't have to walk more than 500 metres after parking their vehicles at designated lots," said Karwal.

To ease the traffic on the ring road, cops have also kept open the option of diverting vehicles. Vehicles of dignitaries and VIPs arriving from across the state and Gandhinagar will take a separate route created by police. "We have kept separate gates for the entry and exit of the vehicles at the ground. Thus, vehicle movement will not be obstructed by heavy inflow," Karwal further said.

The mega rally will be addressed by Modi at around 2pm.

However, participants are likely to flock crowd the SP ring road from early morning. Cops are also taking all precautions for the safety of all the visitors and dignitaries. "To all visitors, we will keep 30 doorframe metal detectors at the venue," the JCP said.
