Meerut woman murdered as robbers decamp with cash and gold

An elderly woman was murdered by some unidentified persons, who barged into the house and decamped with gold ornaments and cash worth Rs50,000, police said.

Some unidentified persons broke into the house of sub-inspector Sushma Chowdhary yesterday when she was out of the house and fled with jewellery and cash after strangulating her mother Rajbeeri, 74, who was alone at that time of the incident, they said.

The incident came to light when Sushma made calls to her mother and she received no answer following which the SI called her neighbours, who broke open the door and found Rajbeeri strangled to death with a pillow, police said.

Police suspect involvement of some known person and have arrested a security guard in this regard.

A case has been registered and the body has been sent for post mortem for further investigations, SP Sudhir Kumar Singh said.
