Enraged over the negative publicity the BSP's silver jubilee celebrations gathered, Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mayawati transferred her additional cabinet secretary Vijay Shankar Pande. Pande, who was first principal information secretary and principal secretary to CM, will now hold the charge of principal health secretary.
The officer reportedly fell out of the CM's favour due to the negative media coverage of the BSP's silver jubilee rally held on March 15. Newspapers and channels went all out to flay Mayawati for wearing a garland of Rs1,000 notes. Senior IAS officer Shailesh Krishna has replaced Pande at the secretariat.
A 1979 batch officer, Pande was till recently one of the top officers enjoying close proximity with the CM. Known to be an upright, he has been associated with India Rejuvenation Initiative (IRI), an NGO fighting corruption in bureaucracy.
