MD arrested in connection with fire at Park Hospital, gets bail

A major fire broke out in the five-storeyed 'Park Superspeciality Hospital' in Somajiguda here on February 1, claiming the lives of an elderly patient and two nurses reportedly due to asphyxiation.

The City Police today arrested the managing director of 'Park Superspeciality Hospital' here, in connection with fire that broke out in the hospital on February 1, claiming three lives, police said.

C Damodar Reddy, who was booked for offences under Sections 304A (Causing death by negligence) 337 (Causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others), 336 (Endangering life or personal safety of others) of IPC, was arrested by Panjagutta police, they said.

Reddy was produced before a local court for judicial remand, but, he was released on bail, a police official said.

A major fire broke out in the five-storeyed 'Park Superspeciality Hospital' in Somajiguda here on February 1, claiming the lives of an elderly patient and two nurses reportedly due to asphyxiation, and injured eight others who jumped after flames engulfed the building.

The fire department personnel, who fought the fire observed that no fire safety measures were adopted in the building.

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation also sealed the "unauthorised" fifth-floor and directed the owner/occupier not to use the premises till unauthorised and deviated portions were removed and necessary occupancy certificate is obtained from the municipal commissioner.
