The Medical Council of India's (MCI) inspection teams finished their work on Tuesday in Ahmedabad and Vadodara for the proposed medical college at Civil Hospital Sola and Government Hospital, Gotri respectively. The authorities are hopeful of getting approval for the colleges.

According to high-level sources at the Civil Hospital Sola, MCI team left at around 4 in the afternoon and seemed satisfied with the facilities and infrastructure at the hospital. "We have done everything to meet the prescribed requirements for the medical college and are hopeful of getting a positive response," said a source. Medical College Sola has applied for an intake capacity of 150 students and has developed the infrastructure for the same. The government medical college at Gotri Vadodara has applied for a student intake of 180.

"We are positive about getting the final approval in the beginning of the new academic year and can hopefully admit students in the coming academic year. We are ready for an intake of 150 students for MBBS course at Sola medical college," said the source. The authorities had begun the purchase of instruments and equipment and construction work had started on April 1.

Teaching staff have also been recruited and the Sola Medical Hospital got its trauma centre and ICCU in the last 10 days.  "Within a fortnight we ensured that we had a 10-bed Intensive Cardiac Care Unit (ICCU). Fifty nine doctors and tutors have also been recruited. We have met the entire infrastructure and manpower requirement to set up the college," said the source.
