The Mayawati government in Uttar Pradesh (UP) has virtually painted state capital Lucknow blue for a massive rallyon Monday to mark the Bahujan Samaj Party’s (BSP’s) silver jubilee and party founder Kanshi Ram’s birth anniversary.
The gala is set to cost BSP an estimated Rs200 crore. The party has proceeded to lavishly play host to about 25 lakh people. Party workers and Dalits from across the country are expected to participate in the rally at the sprawling Ramabai Ambedkar ground.
The ‘BSP blue’ has filled every nook and corner of the city. Pennants by the million carrying the BSP symbol have been put up to welcome the thousands of party workers arriving from across the country. Buildings, memorials, parks and statues have been lit with blue lights. Ambedkar Park, Kanshi Ram Memorial, Parivartan Chowk, Samajik Parivartan Sthal and a host of other memorials have been decorated.
Hoardings and huge cutouts of chief minister Mayawati and other Dalit icons have been put up at all important points in the state capital. BSP workers have built a mini township, Bhim Nagar, for rallyists and it is already bursting at the seams. Mayawati is playing the perfect host, with elaborate food and lodging arrangements for guest cadres.
Leave of all medical, para-medical staff and police personnel has been cancelled in view of the huge congregation expected at the maha rally.
The party has deployed members of Bahujan Volunteer Force (BVF) to assist visitorscoming from other states. BVF volunteers will not only guide the visitors but will also help them in crossing the linguistic barriers since a large numbers of participants are coming from non-Hindi speaking states.
An exhibition highlighting the developmental activities initiated by the Mayawati government and its achievements is also being set near the rally venue. Unprecedented security arrangements are being made at the venue, railway stations and bus stations.
