BJP MP Varun Gandhi’s reported hate speeches have landed him in fresh trouble with the Uttar Pradesh government sanctioning legal action against the Pilibhit MP for promoting communal disharmony on Friday.
“We have given Pilibhit district administration the nod to start proceedings against Varun under IPC section 153 A that deals with promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language etc, and doing acts prejudicial to maintain harmony,” a state home department official said.
The approval for initiating legal action against Varun was taken after consulting experts of the law department, the official said.
According to police, a chargesheet was prepared against Varun after forensic experts confirmed the three CDs containing the hate speeches, he allegedly delivered during the run-up to the LS polls in March, were genuine. Three criminal cases were registered against him.
The first criminal case, relating to the anti-Muslim speech he allegedly delivered at a rally in Barkhera on March 8 was registered on March 17.The second was registered over the same incident at the behest of the Election Commission.
Varun reportedly made yet another hate speech at Desh Nagar locality in Pilibhit on March 7. A case for this speech was registered March 19.
