Underground Maoist leader Kishenji has threatened massive guerrilla attacks unless the Centre officially calls off ‘Operation Green Hunt’ immediately.

“Security forces are spreading misinformation that tribals have started distancing themselves from us. The tribal mass is still with us. They know ‘Operation Green Hunt’ will ultimately result in tribal genocide. We will show the security forces how strong our relationship with tribals is,” he told select media through an intermediary from somewhere on the West Bengal-Jharkhand border in West Midnapore district on Friday.

Kishenji said Maoists would democratically highlight the failures of the Union government. “We will use mass organisations sympathetic to us. The issue that will be highlighted is inflation. Many student unions follow our ideology. We will tell them to organise protests against the government’s failures,” he said.
Kishenji said Maoists were keen to hold meetings with intellectuals and politicians, such as Trinamool Congress MP Kabir Suman, who are against ‘Operation Green Hunt’. “We are keen to mediate with the Centre through them,” he said.

Suman is ready to mediate, but is yet to get the green signal from his party. He said despite repeated requests, Trinamool chief Mamata Banerjee did not give him time to discuss the issue. “I will wait for a certain period and then take my own decision.”
