The mortal remains of 24-year-old Mohammad Ali, a flight steward who died in Air India Express plane crash at Mangalore, may reach here in a week's time.

Family sources said that this may happen as a number of bodies in the crash have been charred beyond recognition and forensic experts are collecting DNA samples to establish their identities.

DNA samples of Ali's father Mohammad Sharwar were collected last evening at Mangalore where experts advised him and other members of the family to return as the tests might take a week, they said.

The sources said the family had appealed to Madhya Pradesh governor Rameshwar Thakur and chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan to facilitate the early return of Ali's mortal remains.

No politician or administrative official had visited the residence of Ali to inquire about the family's situation, they added.
