Mandlewala takes over as SGCCI president

Nilesh Mandlewala has taken over as a president of The Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce & Industry (SGCCI) at a grand function on Saturday. Outgoing president of the body Chetan Shah was also present at the function.

Addressing the function at Gandhi Smriti Bhavan, Mandlewala stressed upon for better air and railway connectivity, development of tourism, necessity of high court bench at Surat and vowed to work for the purpose.

Ajoy Bhattacharya took over as vice president and Hetal Mehta was named as honorary secretary of the 69 year old chamber.

State energy & petrochemicals minister, Saurabh Patel was present as the chief guest of the function. He said, “Global economy is in a mess, but Gujarat had a comfortable year with almost 10% growth in VAT collections.”  Speaking at the function, Nikhil Meswani, executive director of Reliance Industries, who was also chief guest at the function, urged industrialists in Surat to take the current crisis as an opportunity.

“Surat has undergone lot of changes over the years. From a city of sarees, it has become the clothier to the nation. From being just a diamond cutting centre, it has become a jewellery making hub. It is the spirit of private entrepreneurship that has made Surat what it is now,” Meswani said.
