A Dalit was hacked to death in the Gota district of Ahmedabad on Thursday in a rivalry between Patels and Dalits.

In a shocking incident, a man was hacked to death in Gota that comes under Sarkhej police station on Thursday late night in a rivalry between Patels and Dalits. A group from the Patel community reportedly attacked Dalits with sharp weapons. One person was killed while the other sustained serious injuries.
According to deputy superintendent of police (DySP), RK Patel, the incident was prompted by an argument. He said that members of the Dalit community were sitting near Mahashakti Chowk when the rival group approached. The accused asked the Dalits to leave the place claiming it to be their territory. The Dalits left but the group pursued them.
The accused Kalu T Patel along with Jignesh, Sandeep Bharwad, Manish Barot, among others, thronged Gota Housing Society near SG Highway. Armed with sharp weapons, including swords, they attacked the Dalits.
Hemendra alias Hemu, originally from Rajasthan, was killed in the attack. Police said that Hemu was hacked with a sword in his hands and stomach while another person sustained injuries in the attack.
Vipin K Maruda lodged an FIR with Sarkhej police. Since the complainant is a Dalit the case has been registered under The Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities Act), 1989 as well, which is being investigated by RK Patel.
