The sessions court in Ahmedabad on Wednesday convicted a man for killing his wife over a mere suspicion that she was having an extramarital affair. In the two-year-old case, Kiritsinh Parmar, who had confessed to the murder, was sentenced to life imprisonment.
According to police, Parmar married Hetal in 2006. At that time Parmar used to work with a diamond firm as an assorter. He took to drinking after losing his job in 2007. He also started harassing Hetal for dowry and suspected that she had an extramarital affair. Eventually, Hetal moved out and found a job.
On August 11, 2008, when Hetal was on her way to office, Parmar attacked her near GB Shah College, Vasna. He fatally stabbed her with a knife and managed to escape from the spot. However, he later surrendered before the police and confessed to his crime.
Public prosecutor Bhavesh Patel argued that since he had killed his wife for petty issues and false presumption, he should not be viewed leniently.
The court pronounced its verdict after examining the prosecution's argument, Parmar's confession before the police and medical evidence.
