Man arrested for sexually assualting step-daughter in Varanasi

A man has been arrested from the Prahaladghat district here for allegedly sexually assaulting and keeping his minor step-daughter hostage, police said today.

A complaint was registered by city's child line service against Shyam Narayan Rajbhar, district police head Santosh Singh said, adding, the victim, 14, will be presented before the magistrate after medical tests.

The accused has been charged with alleged sexual abuse of his step-daughter on the pretext of something "supernatural" having overpowerered her, he said.

The victim had run away from her house on the night of January one and had reached Mughalsarai through train from where her complaint was registered with the child line located here, police said.

The accused while terming the charges baseless has said that her step-daughter is mentally unstable and had run away from her home once before as well.
