In the wake of West Bengal chief minister Buddahdeb Bhattacharjee's flip flop over the two policemen kidnapped by Maoists in West Midnapore district, Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee today said she would take their relatives to meet Union home minister P Chidambaram.

"I will meet the home minister on Tuesday with family members of the two policemen to request him to do the needful so that they can be traced," Banerjee said after the parents of sub-inspector Kanchan Ghorai and constable Sabir Mollah met her at her residence here.

"If these two constables were killed by Maoists as the chief minister told a press conference in Delhi today, where are their bodies?" Banerjee asked.

"The chief minister is saying one thing at a press conference and giving a clarification later," she said.

Expressing happiness over the release of Officer-in-Charge of Sankrail police station Atindranath Dutta, she said, "at the same time, I want the two policemen who were missing for the past three months to be traced."

Bhattacharjee had earlier in New Delhi said the release of 26 Maoist women supporters in exchange of abducted police officer was an exception and not part of the policy to get rid of the Left extremists from the state.

He later in a statement here clarified that if there was confusion over his remarks in New Delhi concerning the two policemen, he was sorry and his government was making all efforts to trace the two kidnapped policemen.
