Writing on his blog, GPP president Keshubhai Patel has criticized the chief minister, terming him as a ‘con man’ and not a common man.
Gujarat Parivartan Party (GPP) and the Congress lashed out at chief minister Narendra Modi for his statement that ‘beauty consciousness” among middle class women in Gujarat is the reason for malnutrition among them. Writing on his blog, GPP president Keshubhai Patel has criticized the chief minister, terming him as a ‘con man’ and not a common man.
Calling his statement as another lie, Patel said that over 70% of tribal women and men are suffering from malnutrition in the state.
“Are these men and women going for walk on the ramp? Are the poor in the state dieting? When it is hard for them to find two meals a day, how can you expect them to do dieting,” he wrote in his blog.
Meanwhile, president of Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) Arjun Modhvadia gave details of various health indicators in Gujarat and said that the state of people’s health in Gujarat was ‘pathetic’.
“Narendra Modi’s statement is an attempt to hide failure on the health front during his 11-year rule. According to human development index, 44.6% of the children below the age of 5 are malnourished. State ranks seventh in infant mortality rate. Only 56.5% of the newborn babies are born in hospital and as far as safe delivery rank is concerned, Gujarat stands 14th in the county,” Arjun Modhvadia said in an official statement.
He added that despite huge spending on health and allied sectors the Modi government’s policies had benefited very few in the state.
Earlier, in an interview to the Wall Street Journal, Modi had said: “Gujarat is also a middle class state. The middle class is more beauty-conscious than health conscious.”
Keshubhai Patel has said: “It seems chief minister Narendra Modi wants to set up a world record in telling lies. To tell a lie to the people everyday is becoming his nature.”
