Malaria cases rise by 25% this year in Ahmedabad

Against 1251 cases in the first six months of 2010, the AMC has recorded 1526 cases.

The city has registered a rise in number of malaria cases. AMC’s data shows that there has been a 25% rise in the number of patients suffering from the disease. Once, seen as a disease on the decline, the number of malaria cases has shown a spurt in recent times.

If that wasn’t enough, two dengue cases were also reported in the city.

Against 1251 cases of malaria in the first six months of 2010, the AMC has this year recorded 1526 cases in city for the same period.  This is 25% more than the previous year.

A look at the figures for the last two months shows that the city has recorded a whopping 856 number of cases.

Moreover, dengue and jaundice cases are also being reported. As many as 15 jaundice cases have been reported in the city in a single day. Apart from two dengue cases, 3 malaria cases were also reported in the city hospitals on Wednesday.

AMC officials fear that the number of malaria cases might increase or even double in the coming days.
