Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi today appealed to the people to maintain peace after the verdict by Allahabad high court on Ayodhya title suits and said those who were not able to digest the progress of the state were conspiring to disturb its social fabric.

"It is my humble prayer to all the stakeholders of the society to be extra careful from elements hell bent on ruining the social fabric of Gujarat," Modi said in a statement issued in Ahmedabad.

"Gujarat has to remain extra cautious as a border state. In no way can Gujarat tolerate the evil eyes and ill-intentions of the adversaries of the nation. The peace-loving people of Gujarat have long back buried violence, curfews and communal riots," he said.

Modi had earlier issued a similar appeal on September 22.

"With the apex court removing the impediment, I am sure of an early legal recourse for a solution to the dispute over Ramjanmabhoomi at Ayodhya," Modi said.

Modi's appeal comes after directive from the Centre to states, particularly sensitive Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra and Karnataka, to give "topmost priority" in enhancing security to deal with any law and order problem that may arise after the court verdict on Ayodhya title suits.

Ahead of the verdict all police commissioners and district superintendents of Gujarat have been directed to tighten security in their respective areas.
