The Maharashtra budget will be presented by finance minister Ajit Pawar in the assembly on March 26. The assembly’s budget session will commence on March 15.

Maharashtra parliamentary affairs minister Harshvardhan Patil told mediapersons that the business advisory committee (BAC) had met in the Vidhan Bhavan and agreed upon the dates. For now, the session is scheduled to run till March 30, but on March 29, the BAC will meet again to decide how many more weeks to run the session.

Typically, the budget session runs for six weeks and should thus conclude at the end of April.

The state budget is usually presented two weeks after the Union budget so that in can incorporate the Centre’s grants to the state. This year the Union budget has been delayed because of the state elections, and will be presented on March 16.
