'Loss assessment commenced in Haryana's flood-affected areas'

Twenty six people had died due to floods in the state earlier this month, with Ambala, Kurukshetra, Sirsa and Fatehabad being the worst affected districts.

The Haryana government today said that special loss assessment drive has commenced in the flood-affected areas here and the farmers, who have suffered loss, would be compensated adequately by the state government.

"Also, effective steps would be taken to prevent re-occurrence of such floods in future," Minister of State for Revenue and Disaster Management, Shiv Charan Lal Sharma, who visited the flood affected areas of Chhachhrauli and Bilaspur in district Yamunanagar to see the damage caused due to floods, said.

The minister had inspected a bridge damaged by the flood on Dadupur Nalvi Canal and a small bridge near Chuhadpur village in Yamunanagar district yesterday.

"Based on preliminary estimates of damage caused due to floods, the state government has already sought a total financial assistance of about Rs 1,369 crore from the central government.

"The state government has also urged the Centre to revise the Calamity Relief Fund (CRF) norms to a realistic level for providing adequate relief to the people affected by the recent floods in the state," he said.
