Strongly condemning the attack on its president N Jayaprakash Narayan by TRS MLAs in the assembly premises, the Lok Satta Party today said it will hold peaceful protests over the issue.

"This attack on Jayaprakash Narayan, who has been fighting for clean politics, in the assembly premises is barbaric. It is a black day in the history of independent India. This is an insult not only to Jayaprakash Narayan but to the democracy and freedom fighters of India," senior Lok Satta leader DVS Varma said.

Asserting that Lok Satta was never opposed to separate Telangana, he said the attack by the TRS MLAs is an attack on freedom of expression.

"This is not an issue of a particular region, religion or caste. All democratic-minded people should condemn such attacks," he said.

Varma asked party cadres across the state to hold peaceful protests against the attack on Narayan.

The TRS MLAs allegedly beat up Jayaprakash Narayan and Congress MLC Paladugu Venkata Rao in the premises of the Andhra Pradesh Assembly today.

The incident occurred after the TRS MLAs tried to manhandle governor ESL Narasimhan inside the house during his address to the joint sitting of both the houses on the opening day of the budget session.
