The latest in fashion is not clothes stitched to new designs, hip accessories or even a trendy new hairstyle. The latest is diamond-studded teeth. Many people will find this unbelievable because, aren’t diamonds poisonous? Well, no, at least not these diamonds with which dentists in Ahmedabad are giving a sparkle to their clients’ teeth.

This bit of fashion news gets even better if you recently lost a tooth or two and are thinking of replacing them with dentures or with tooth implants. Instead of feeling sorry for yourself, you can use your artificial teeth to make a fashion statement — get them studded with diamonds.

Easily fitted and comfortable to wear, these diamonds for teeth come in different shapes and colours. If you have opted for a tooth implant, you can choose a tooth with a heart-shaped diamond, a diamond star or a square-shaped diamond fixed to it.

If you are thinking that the diamond-studded artificial teeth must be expensive, relax. They are priced at Rs1,500 to Rs2,000 apiece.

Dr Jay Mehta, dental and laser-cosmetic surgeon of Dental Care and Implant Clinic, says that diamond-studded teeth are the latest advancement in cosmetic dentistry.

“I get around 15-20 patients each month,” he said. “The wonderful thing about these diamonds is that they can be removed very easily without causing any pain to the patient or damage to his teeth.”

The diamonds are available in 12 different colours. You can choose a simple white diamond, passion ruby, rich blue zircon, rose champagne, aquamarine or an electric magenta diamond. These are also available in three different sizes. The customer can choose the size, colour and shape that best matches the size and shape of his teeth. Viral I Patel, periodontist and expert in tooth implants who is also the president of Gujarat State Dental Council, said no drilling or dental surgery is needed to fix a diamond to a tooth. “In fact, it takes only 10 minutes,” he said.

Ritu Patel, who has a diamond-studded tooth, said, “Dental diamonds are like jewellery. I can get it removed anytime I want.”
