Life imprisonment awarded to convict in Rourkela

A district court convicted a certain Gopal Kumura and sentenced him to life imprisonment for killing a person last year.

Additional District judge of Sundargarh, Madhumita Das, convicted Gopal Kumura and sentenced him to life imprisonment yesterday for killing Harish Ch.Bhainsa on July 12, 2008.

The convict was ordered to pay a fine of Rs10,000 and face an additional jail term of one year if he failed to pay the fine.

The judge had examined at least 14 witnesses and considered a postmortem report and other circumstantial evidences during the trial.

According to prosecution, Gopal Kumura of Darlipalli village had attacked  Harish Chandra of Nangalakata village with a wooden plank after a heated argument between them in a marriage procession.

Harish Chandra was critically injured and died on the way to hospital.
