Three robbers struck at H Rameshchandra Angadia office at Silicon Shoppers in Udhna on Friday afternoon. A photographer of DB Gold, Surat (Divya Bhaskar) nabbed one, while he was fleeing after the failed loot attempt. Udhna police praised the brave act of the lensman.
The robbers tied the only employee present in the office and tried to break the locker, but were unsuccessful. Angered by this, they left in a hurry but were noticed by the manager, Hasmukh Patel. He rushed inside the office where the employee told him about what had happened.
When Patel accosted the robbers, one of them hit him on the head. Despite bleeding profusely, Patel chased them for a short distance. Meanwhile, photographer of Divya Bhaskar, Kanaiya Panwala, saw Patel. Panwala chased the robbers on his motorcycle and hit one of them from behind. The robber tried to fire bullets thrice at Panwala but failed. He fell and was caught by Panwala.
"I was returning from office when I saw three people running and one shouting for help. On inquiring, I found out that the trio was a robber gang. I immediately chased them and was successful in nabbing one," Panwala said.
Local residents rushed to the spot and on learning about the incident thrashed the robber. He has been identified as Manoj Thakur, 25, a resident of Vadod in Pandesara, originally from Uttar Pradesh.
Panwala took injured Patel to a nearby private hospital. Thakur was taken to the police station where he confessed to committing the crime. Udhna police have initiated a search for the two other culprits, who are identified as Vimal and Deepak.
"Thakur brought two country-made pistols and eight live cartridges from UP to Surat. He came to Surat on Thursday night on Tapti-Ganga Express. We have registered a complaint of attempt to loot," AR Palash, PSI of Udhna police station, said. Udhna police is investigating the matter further.
