After a nationwide campaign against the policies of the UPA government, the Left parties today decided to hold a rally here next month to focus on issues of price rise, protection of land of peasants, land reforms and employment for all.
The decision was finalised at a meeting here of top leaders Prakash Karat (CPI-M), A B Bardhan (CPI), Debabrata Biswas (Forward Bloc) and T J Chandrachoodan (RSP).
After the meeting, they said the rally would be held at the Ramlila Grounds on March 12 where Left activists from all over the country would be mobilised.
The rally would also focus on "the attacks on democracy and violence against the Left in West Bengal especially by Maoists and Trinamool Congress", the Left leaders said.
Among the issues to be raised at the rally would be steps to halt the rise in prices of food items and essential commodities, universalising public distribution system, ban futures trading in foodgrains, cutting customs and excise duties on oil and reducing retail prices of petrol and diesel.
The Left parties would also seek steps to help farmers to produce more foodgrains, implementing land reforms and protecting the land of peasants and tribals.
A major demand would be to ask the government to provide jobs for all and urgent steps to curb unemployment.
