Surat: A delegation of Surat District Bar Association held a meeting with Gujarat High Court officials in Gandhinagar on Friday to resolve the impasse due to their demand to transfer Surat district and sessions judge RP Dholaria and the HC's lack of action over it so far.
The lawyers affiliated to the Bar Association, are on indefinite strike, from Tuesday to press for removal of judge Dholaria. The lawyers had in July struck work for almost a week for their demand. However, they had deferred their stir following a HC assurance to look into their demand.
The delegation, led by in-charge president Babu Rayka and other senior members, met HC unit judge RR Tripathi and other court officials, to discuss their demand. The lawyers once again stressed on their demand to transfer the sessions judge. Unit judge RR Tripathi told the delegation that he would visit Surat next Saturday.
"The meeting was a very good one and we are confident of an early resolution to the issue," Rayka said. Rayka also said that they will hold another meeting tomorrow with their fellow lawyers to decide on the future course of their agitation.
The SDBA has been on warpath against judge Dholaria from almost two months after its office bearers were not invited to a Lok Adalat. The lawyers also alleged that they were facing humiliation at the hands of judge Dholaria and other subordinate judges.
