The continuing protests by public over the Kudankulam Nuclear Power project has not led to any "perceptible change in the perception" among US companies on investing in Tamil Nadu and they "are ready to participate," in business activities, a US official said on Wednesday.

"There is no change. Once the framework is there, companies are ready to participate and the interest is as same as before," James Golsen, Principal Commercial Officer at the US Consulate General in Chennai, said.

He was responding to a question at a press meet organised by the Indo-American Chamber of Commerce (IACC) when asked if there had been any change in perception of US investors over investing in India in the wake of the over three-month long agitation by the locals demanding scrapping of the Rs14,000 crore Indo-Russian joint venture on safety concerns.

Golsen said bilateral trade between India and the US had been "robust" in the last two years despite the economic slowdown and recently commerical deals had been inked between firms in US and those in Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu.

He, however, declined to divulge details.

IACC National President Anand Desai said the body had proposed to hold two "flagship events," over Indo-US trade next year, one each in India and the US.

The thrust areas for collaborartive efforts between the countries include environmental and sustainability, security and auto components, he said.

The Indo-US Economic Summit had been planned for April next year in Delhi while another event, SUITE, had been planned for later in the US, Desai said.
