ShareSrinagar: Asserting that dialogue holds the key to the resolution of Kashmir issue, moderate faction of the Hurriyat Conference today said that the long-standing issue would be resolved in a phased manner, provided New Delhi shows consistency, seriousness and sincerity.
"Kashmir issue has entered a crucial and decisive phase. It will be resolved in a phased manner provided India exhibits consistency, seriousness and sincerity," chairman of the moderate faction of Hurriyat Conference Mirwaiz Umer Farooq said while addressing a Friday Congregation at Jamia Masjid here.
"Prime minister Manmohan Singh is saying one thing at one time and another thing at another time," Mirwaiz said and asked New Delhi to accept the ground realities and take necessary steps to restore confidence of the people of Kashmir in the institution of dialogue.
"The latest statements of the prime minister and the home minister P Chidambaram on Kashmir are encouraging. We hope that it is not the outcome of international pressure but based on the ground realities," the Hurriyat chairman said and added, "We want India and Pakistan to resume the dialogue on Kashmir without further delay."
In his attempt to build consensus on the dialogue, Mirwaiz said, "We have always supported result-oriented and fruitful dialogue, and are desirous to take all the leaders along."
"Kashmir is a 63-year-old dispute. We have to move forward together to seek its solution in accordance to the wishes and aspirations of the people," he said adding, "We have to rise above petty political considerations."
Apparently referring to ruling National Conference and opposition PDP, the Hurriyat leader said, "Those who claim to be the sympathisers of Kashmiris and are serious in the solution of Kashmir issue, should come forward and join our efforts."
"Srinagar, New Delhi, Islamabad and Muzaffarabad are the four pillars of the table and their involvement is a must for the success of the dialogue," Mirwaiz said.
Suggesting confidence building measures, the Hurriyat chairman said, "We have already proposed a five-point formula which would help to create a conducive atmosphere for dialogue. The five-point formula includes step wise demilitarisation, revocation of armed forces special powers act, free movement along the traditional cross-border roads."
Mirwaiz also passed a resolution paying tributes to the martyrs of November 6, 1947. "We cannot forget the sacrifices of the people of Jammu region on this day in 1947. Jammu and Kashmir is a single entity, and we are incomplete without the people of Jammu."
