A day after the Uttar Pradesh government announced a CB-CID probe into the alleged sexual assault of a girl student in Kanpur, the victim's mother today said the case should be handed over to the CBI.
"I do not trust any state agency and my daughter will get justice only if the case is handed over to central investigating agencies," the mother of the 12-year-old victim who later succumbed in hospital, told reporters.
She said she would not cooperate with any state agency until the case was handed over to the CBI to ensure transparency in the probe.
The government had yesterday ordered a CB-CID inquiry into the incident following dissatisfaction among the family members over the ongoing investigations by Kanpur police in the case.
The girl was allegedly sexually assaulted at Bharatiya Gyan Sthali School in Kalyanpur area of Kanpur on September 27 after which she died at a hospital the same day, the victim's family had claimed.
Police later claimed to have cracked the case by arresting their neighbour Munna who allegedly confessed to have "raped" the student at his place, a theory dismissed by the victim's family.
According to the postmortem report, the girl died of excessive bleeding due to unnatural sex.
The school's manager Chanderpal Verma and his sons Mukesh and Piyush have been arrested under section 109 (punishment for abetment) and 304 (A) (causing death by negligence) of the IPC.
