Karunanidhi had even deputed MK Stalin, his son and heir apparent, to New Delhi to accompany Kanimozhi back to Chennai.
Muthuvel Karunanidhi, the DMK chief, was shocked and upset over the denial of bail to his daughter Kanimozhi, an accused in the 2G Spectrum scam. "Since morning he was sitting glued to the TV set in his Gopalapuram residence. He was hoping that Kanimozhi would be granted bail by the Delhi court. But he was shocked when he got the information that the court rejected her bail application," said one of the DMK leaders who briefly interacted with him in the morning.

The leader said the DMK chief had made elaborate arrangements to receive Kanimozhi at the Chennai airport. "He himself had planned to go to the airport to welcome her. A big public rally too was on the anvil," said the DMK leader.
The DMK patriarch was so shocked that he immediately retired to his bed room and remained incommunicado throughout the day. He had plans to drive down to the party headquarters. His swanky white Toyota van and fleet of security cars were at the doorsteps of the Gopalapuram residence since morning.
“The leader is deeply upset,” the source kept saying. Karunanidhi is more upset because he feels his meetings with both Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh during his last visit to New Delhi to plead the cause of Kanimozhi has not paid off.
Kanimozhi has been lodged in Tihar jail since May. Earlier, her bail pleas have been rejected by the special court hearing the 2G Scam, the Delhi high court and the Supreme Court .But the apex court had told her to move the court for bail after the framing of charges by the trial court. "We will approach the Delhi high court with an appeal," said the DMK leader.
