Justice AS Dave of the Gujarat high court has granted bail to Mehboob Baigh alias Mehboob Senior in the Kalupur building collapse case. Five people were killed and 17 others were injured on January 28 when Siddhika Apartment in Saudagar ni Pol in Kalupur gave away due to faulty construction.

The court granted bail to Senior after his lawyer argued that the police have completed their investigation in the case and the offence is bailable.
The crime branch had filed a case against Mehboob Salim alias Salim Bata, Mehboob Senior, Mehboob Hanif alias Hanif Bata, Salim Mansuri, Mohammed Munaf alias Munaf Bata and Anwarkhan Pathan Shaikh.

JM Panchal and Umesh Trivedi submitted before the court that, Senior had not played a role in the construction of the building and that he only gave Rs2 lakh as loan to Bata brothers. Interestingly, Habib Mogal alias Habib Junior, the brother of Mehboob, filed an application seeking that he be allowed to object the bail plea. The court rejected his plea as he is not connected to the case.
Habib objected to the bail plea on the ground that, Mehboob is notorious and is an accused in several multiple cases.
