TRS leader K Chandrasekhara Rao (KCR) continued with his fast, which entered the 11th day on Wednesday, for creation of a Telangana state but the Centre is not budging yet.  Doctors at the Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) in Hyderabad are administering him IV fluids including dextrose and some antibiotics but the Mahabubnagar MP’s condition remains critical as he has had no food since November 29. Doctors are worried about the depleting protein and albumin in his body. “KCR is stable so far. He is conscious and talking to visitors. But, we can’t continue to keep him on support system for long. Our medical advice for him is to start eating some food,” NIMS director Prasad Rao told reporters.

The doctors were to take blood samples from KCR at regular intervals. Rao resisted during the day, but the doctors managed to collect a sample in the evening.

The Congress party at the Centre is still resisting the Telengana pressure. A core committee meeting in Delhi did not comment on Telengana, except assuring that the Centre was seriously considering the issue. In fact, the core committee focused more on making KCR end his fast.

Even the state government was focused on ending KCR’s fast. It persuaded KCR’s family to convince him to eat something. Sources said KCR’s family, including his wife and daughter, met him on Tuesday to tell him his life was more important to them than Telangana. But KCR asked them to leave him alone.

The state assembly, which is in session, adjourned for the second consecutive day without taking up any business as opposition parties sought a discussion on Telangana.  Students of various universities in Telangana plan to storm the assembly on Thursday.

The core committee meeting in New Delhi had raised expectations but it proved to be a damp squib. “The core committee has considered intelligence reports, voices within the party, opinion of other political parties in Andhra and the demand for creation of new states elsewhere. Telangana is definitely on the Centre and Congress party’s radar,” a senior Congressman from Andhra said.
