Retired Supreme Court judge, Justice MB Shah, began an enquiry into corruption charges levelled against the Narendra
Modi government by the opposition Congress and some NGOs.

The state government had set up the enquiry commission on August 17 to investigate 15 different charges of corruption levelled against the Modi government. The opposition Congress and the NGOs have alleged that corruption involving crores of rupees had taken place in the allotment of land and other benefits extended to a few industrial houses in the state.

Justice Shah has started the enquiry amid an extremely charged political atmosphere in the state. The Modi government is facing criticism for its reluctance to accept retired high court judge RA Mehta as the Lok Ayukta to curb corruption in the government.
Talking to DNA, Justice Shah said, "I have already started work as the government has set up a separate office at Shahibaug."

"I have just started work and will conduct further proceedings once the primary formalities are over," he added.     Panel a ‘diversionary tactic’.
