Shunning obduracy, separatists have embarked on a journey to promote tourism in Kashmir. Leading the race is Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chairman Mohammad Yasin Malik who assured the tourists that the valley is safe for them.

Malik met a group of tourists who called on him at his residence to enquire whether the Valley was safe. “From time immemorial, Kashmiris have been known for their hospitality. They have never left this trait even in tough and difficult circumstances. During the 2008 Amarnath land row when communal forces in Jammu imposed an economic blockade on Kashmir, people not only cared for the yatris but also feed them and even gave them shelter in their homes,” he said

The JKLF chairman urged tourists to visit Kashmir without any fear and enjoy its natural beauty to its full. Malik said some vested interests and tour operators were spreading canards about the safety and security of tourists in the Valley with an intention to divert tourists to Himachal Pradesh and other states. “It is our appeal to all people to puncture the propaganda of these vested interests and come to Kashmir. Not only domestic tourists, we appeal to the foreign tourists also to spend holidays in Kashmir.

Kashmir and its people are waiting to welcome them,” Malik said
The separatist initiative has come as a morale-booster for the tourism sector, which was the mainstay of Kashmir’s economy. J&K chief minister Omar Abdullah said it was a part of strategy not to highlight anything related to tourism sector. “We are not highlighting it . My appeal to media is please let do not highlight,” he said.
