Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa Saturday expressed relief over timely detection of a pipe bomb on the Jan Chetna Yatra route of BJP leader LK Advani and said she had ordered the police to speed up investigations and bring to book the perpetrators.

"Without any untoward incident, the conspiracy has been foiled which gives me relief. Police have already registered a case and are thoroughly investigating it. I have ordered them to identify the culprits behind the incident and bring them to book quickly," she said in a statement in Chennai.

Jayalalithaa also said Advani spoke to her over phone this morning and thanked her for the timely action by the state police in foiling the conspiracy.

Police yesterday recovered a crude pipe-bomb from under a bridge at Alampatti near Tirumangalam in Madurai district, on the route which was to be taken by the BJP leader as part of his nation-wide yatra against corruption.

Speaking in Thiruvananthapuram on Saturday, Advani lauded Tamil Nadu police for recovery of the bomb and called for a thorough probe to nab those behind the incident.

Advani, who has the highest 'Z-plus' category security, was to have travelled by the route to reach Srivilliputhur in Tamil Nadu's Virudhunagar district to address a public meeting, but was diverted following the incident.
