Jawan killed in gunfight with Maoists in Jharkhand

Injured jawans were airlifted to Medininagar, the headquarters of Palamu district, before they were referred to a private hospital in Ranchi.

A jawan of Bihar Military Police (BMP) was killed and two others sustained injuries in a gunfight with Maoists near Kanda Ghati in Bisrampur police station in Palamu district, the police said today.

Superintendent of police, Jatin Narwal told newsmen today that a BMP jawan, Pultas Sharma was killed in the encounter that lasted for about four hours last night.  

He said the injured jawans were airlifted to Medininagar, the headquarters of Palamu district, before they were referred to a private hospital in Ranchi.

The encounter ensued after Maoists attacked a cluster centre at Nawa, the police said.
